New documents to help communicate and teach.

After last season I spent some time reflecting and thinking about what had gone well and also areas I could improve . I knew I'd put a lot into the season creating opportunities for the players but also spending a lot of time preparing for practices and trying to keep it fun, challenging and informative. I want the kids to love coming to practice but also to learn more about the game. Anyway this winter I've been working on my supporting documentation which included the following documents:

  • Team Overview

  • Vocabulary

  • playing style

  • principles of play

  • curriculum

The main reason I created these documents was to give my players extra resources, and to help communicate some of my soccer concepts. In hindsight I had assumed all my players had understood basic concepts / vocabulary about soccer but in reality I've been around soccer for so long it just seems common sense.

Additionally, this process allowed me to put my thoughts down on paper and analyze how I wanted to play. We'll see how things work during this upcoming Spring season but I won't be scared to adjust based on how any of this is received by the players.

I will be starting a monthly newsletter in the future and plan to share more about each document, what it contains and how I use them. Be sure to follow along.
